We are near the end of 2008 and what a year
it has been? The stock market crashed, the
United States elected its first African
American president, and my family had its
first family reunion ever. I don't know
about you, but for me 2008 has been one of
the most tumultuous years ever. Now more
than ever are people talking about the need
to plan for the future, but also to be
fulfilled and content at work as well as at home.
Life is stressful. Yes, we know it, but did
you know that most of our stress comes from
the past? It might not seem that way, but
human beings are wired such that current
events that seem to bother us in the moment
are actually triggered by similar events that
bothered us in the past, sometimes decades
and decades ago.
For years, I have practiced a cutting-edge
coaching technique called Neuro Emotional
Technique or NET® for short. I added this to
my regular coaching tools when I saw how
difficult it was for my clients to implement
lasting change. I also witnessed how
challenging it is for most people to make
sense of their emotions, and how emotions get
in the way when we want to move forward and
improve ourselves and our lives.
For my clients (as well as personally,) NET
has been a God-send. It provides people with
a tool that assists with changing behavior
much more rapidly than is possible on your
own. Through NET, people can transform their
lives and go places they never dreamed possible.
Today's newsletter is dedicated to the
practice of NET. If you are interested in
learning more about it, read on. Now more
than ever we are challenged to bring out the
best in ourselves and each other. We don't
have the luxury of playing the "victim" or
waiting to be rescued. We need to rescue
ourselves and be self-sufficient. NET will
not only help you stay on course, but it can
assist you in getting ahead.
Best wishes / Mit freundlichen Grüssen,

| NET®: A Breakthrough Coaching Technique That Transforms Your Life Permanently! |

What Is NET?
Emotions are part of the natural, healthy
response process we have to virtually every
situation we encounter. However, sometimes
challenging emotional experiences and
physical vulnerabilities create lingering
stress in our mind-body architecture. Such
stress can contribute to physical complaints,
emotional difficulties, and problems with
goal achievement. Developed in 1988 by Dr.
Scott Walker, NET® is a powerful intervention
that can assess and alleviate internal
stressors that are creating barriers to
health, emotional balance, success and
positive change.
How Does NET Work?
Basic emotions like fear, anger, and
grief are part of the normal response to
everyday experiences. Generally, these
emotional responses dissipate as the
situation that triggers them resolves. For
example, if you encounter a growling dog
while you're walking down the street, you may
feel fear. The fear, in this case, is part of
the healthy emotional response that protects
your survival, and it will normally dissipate
when the threat is gone. However, sometimes
there are factors that prevent the body from
recovering from what was originally a healthy
response. The result is a short-circuit or
"glitch" in the nervous system, which can
affect physical and mental well-being.
Emotional reactions to situations can also be
conditioned, and sometimes after just one
life experience - especially if it was a
traumatic one!
Similar But Different
Pavlov discovered that if a dog is
conditioned to salivate at the sound of a
bell, the bell can be changed to another bell
that sounds slightly different and the dog
will still salivate. The same thing can
happen with our conditioned emotional
responses. For example, let's consider the
case of a young boy who was severely scolded
by his father for making a simple mistake.
This incident caused him great anxiety and an
upset stomach. Today, as an adult, he finds
himself becoming overly tense and gets an
upset stomach whenever an older man (e.g.,
his boss) criticizes him in any way. He
doesn't consciously connect the two
incidents, and can't figure out why he feels
ill. NET® makes the connection and
efficiently resolves the problem.
Finding the Short Circuit
The "emotional baggage" associated with
past events in our lives can sometimes haunt
us for years. Like a computer "glitch,"
unresolved negative associations are stored
in our bodies, often short-circuiting our
dreams, goals, even our health. A coach who
practices NET® assists you with identifying
and resolving stuck events (real or imagined)
that are affecting your ability to have
optimal health and well-being.
What Others Say About Clear Intentions and
NET
"Barbara's work is fresh and amazingly
efficient...her skill with NET® and inspired
insights set her apart in the "going-below-
the-surface" department. My results have
been both immediate and cumulative...and
remarkably liberating."
Jean Wood, Vice President, MHI Real
Estate Development, Bend, OR
I have known Barbara over the course of
several years and worked with her on family
relationships and my tendency to become
overly-responsible. Barbara has helped me
bring healing on some issues held deeply in
my consciousness. She creates a safe and
centered environment within which to work
together, is brightly intuitive,
heart-centered in her approach, and
wonderfully articulate. Barbara is gifted in
her creative and expansive perspective,
offering a much broader view in areas of
challenge than I am accustomed to seeing on
my own.

Take some time to identify the deeper reasons
of why some things trigger you they way they
do. Pick one or two situations that are
guaranteed to trigger you (they have been in
the past and you are certain that they will
in the future).
Write down what is so upsetting about them
and look for a similar situation in the past.
Once you have found the past event, take some
time to get complete with the event. That's
easier said than done, I know. But remember,
you can't do anything about the past. In
most cases, truly forgiving yourself and any
person who was involved will provide you with
some relief.
